If your faith is weak

God will help

You will be strong

in the long run.

If you are a fake

insincere in heart

Even God cannot help

in the long run.

Father, thank You for my brothers and sisters. Before the world began, You created each one of us, for with You there is no time and space. None of us are here by our own choice or by accident, but because You, Lord, out of Your love and mercy, have called us before You without us even fully understanding it.

We admit to You, O Lord, how easy it is for us to sing choruses, say words like, “The world behind me and the Cross before me, no turning back, no turning back. Though no one will join in this journey, no one will go with me, I still will follow.” Lord, the times we said that to You, the best we knew how, in our weakness and struggle and lack of faith, we really desired that.

We look to You, O dear Lord Jesus, the One who sits on the throne as the lamb that was slain, forever reminding us that the way of Your Father is the cross. Forgive us, O Lord, for the times we don’t remember this. Our cleverness, our smartness, our pride of all kinds—how much it hinders us from coming into Your presence and knowing You.

I pray, O Lord, that the mystery of godliness will be revealed more and more to each one of us as we walk into this unknown year with absolute confidence that our God is bigger than all.

Thank You for Your grace we do not deserve. And we refuse, refuse, refuse to figure things out on our own and rest in our own reasons and logic. Deliver us from pride and arrogance and thinking that “I am right. I know the answers.” But Lord, help us to walk into this new year, holding onto Your hand for You to do whatever You choose for Your glory and honor.

We say all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our blessed Lord. Amen.
