There is no rose
without the thorns.
The life of the rose
and of the thorns
are from the same source.
A bed of roses
has destroyed as many lives
as did thorns
of sorrow and pain.
So a saint prayed long ago:
“Dear God,
Please don’t make me rich
lest I forget you
and don’t make me poor
that I go out and steal.”
