Sometimes the worry and care that we carry has to do with sins from our past. We can think over and over again about them, and that burden we carry just gets heavier.

But we need to remind ourselves that the sins from our past are not just covered, they are judged, removed and cleansed. In the Old Testament, sin was covered, but it was not removed. The blood of animals did not remove sin. It did not wipe sin away. It just covered it. But Jesus’ death on the cross, His blood, made all things clean. There is no more record of our sin.

We don’t have to live with guilt, remorse and worry over the past. Don’t inflict wounds on yourself anymore. Don’t try to pay for your past. Jesus already did that. Receive and accept His gift.

And remember Jesus is our Redeemer. We can trust Him to redeem even our sin, even our messes, so that somehow He can receive glory in the midst of them. “And I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten” (Joel 2:25).

Ultimately, even these cares we can cast back on Him to handle for us, for He cares for us.
